Mold found in Meridian fire stations

The City of Meridian is preparing to pay a costly bill to remove mold from some of its fire stations.

The mold was first discovered by a captain who checked under mats in a training room.

This was followed by an inspection of all five city fire stations.

Four of the five ended having mold in them.

The city says their first priority was just getting the mold out.

"The equipment that was in those rooms has been disinfected and cleaned and was actually moved into the apparatus bays so that we can now address the floors," says Meridian Fire Division Chief Charlie Butterfield.

And the city says those floors may have to be completely replaced to make sure the mold doesn't return.

The city has set aside $70,000 to find a permanent fix to the issue.
