Tottenham sent Eberechi Eze transfer message as Marc Guehi close to Newcastle United move

Tottenham and Newcastle United are aspiring to be in the Champions League, with Daniel Levy at Spurs and the Saudi-led ownership at St James’ Park doing everything to make it happen.

Two players who would enormously help them reach that target are Crystal Palace duo Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi.

Tottenham haven’t been in the Champions League for a number of seasons now and Newcastle only competed in Europe’s elite competition last term.

Many are backing either team – or even both – to finish in the top four, but you feel they have to get their transfer business right, with the deadline fast approaching.

The latest transfer noise around Guehi might affect those at Hotspur Way and their aim to sign his swashbuckling and all-action teammate, Eze.

After weeks and weeks of pushing, including Newcastle having record bids turned down for Guehi, they are now closing in on the transfer of the England centre-back, as reported by Sky Sports.

The 24-year-old was a standout performer for England at Euro 2024 and he enhanced his reputation despite another defeat in a final for his nation.

Spurs have been pretty busy themselves this summer and Levy has backed his man in the dugout, including Tottenham paying a club-record transfer for Dominic Solanke.

It seems as though if the Europa League side wants to add Eze to their books, then they will have to pay big bucks for his talents.

Sources have told HITC that Tottenham are interested in signing Eze, but how much will they have to pay for him now given all this Guehi and Newcastle talk of ‘£70 million’?

Simon Jordan, who is friends with Tottenham’s chairman Levy, thinks they will have to put ‘£80 million’ on the table now, as he told talkSPORT.

Eberechi Eze transfer fee

“One thing I could say and I would believe this to be reasonably aligned with Parish’s thinking, if they sell Guehi for £70 million, which I told you they would get and they will get £30 million for Andersen,” said Jordan.

“They have got the other kid (Olise) gone out to Bayern Munich for £30-40 million. Anyone wants to buy Eze, they are going to have to pay some serious, serious dough. £80 million.

“Why would Palace sell him? They have got £140 million coming in worth of players. A lot of that is very structured in the way that it’s upfront money. So, why would they need to sell Eze as well? Someone will have to pay big bucks to get Eze out.”

Daniel Levy backing Ange Postecoglou

Levy has been blasted for not signing Ivan Toney, but Spurs have still got a man in Solanke who netted 19 goals for Bournemouth last season.

The squad is being bulked up ahead of a return to Europe and the team seriously needs it because they are weak in areas.

Not in terms of quality, but lacking that depth because if Destiny Udogie gets injured, then you worry about the drop-off.

The same with the centre-backs – Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven – that’s why any late deals the club concludes from now until next Friday’s deadline could be season-defining.
